Join us at Ormston House for a Q&A with students from Thomond Primary School and Payam Sharifi of Slavs and Tatars artist collective. The discussion will explore Slavs and Tatars artistic interventions titled Azbuka Strikes Back, 2023, currently presented on the school grounds and at Ormston House as part of the 40th EVA International – Ireland’s biennial of contemporary art.
Slavs and Tatars have presented a sound installation, and a window vinyl with the spelling of the name Thomond Primary School in Ukrainian. The collective have been exploring ideas of race and colonialism in the traditions of children’s educational literature from former socialist nations in Eastern Europe, Caucasus and Central Asia. The artwork presented at Thomond Primary School forms part of the Guest Programme The Gleaners Society, curated by Sebastian Cichocki. The event is free admission, but booking is required here.
