We’re delighted to facilitate an open day at Thomond Primary School to preview artworks as part of the 40th EVA International – Ireland’s Biennial of Contemporary Art.

The partnership between EVA and Thomond Primary School involves the work of Irish artist Deirdre O’Mahony and Berlin-based collective Slavs and Tatars in the development of new contemporary artworks in collaboration with the school and its pupils. Artist Deirdre O’Mahony worked with the Thomond Primary School Gardening Club to create a permanent micro-forest and biodiversity haven titled Snaky River Forest, 2023. Whilst the artist collective Slavs and Tatars presented Azbuka Strikes Back, 2023, a number of artworks on the school grounds that explore ideas of race and colonialism in the traditions of children’s educational literature. The artworks presented at Thomond Primary School form part of the Guest Programme of 40th EVA International, curated by Sebastian Cichocki. Admission is free but booking is required here.
