Ormston House in partnership with EVA International is launching a weekly event, ‘Jumping Backwards into a Wave’, reflecting on the evolution of Ireland’s Biennial in Limerick. Working from archival records, the group will gather for lunch every Saturday to review and discuss the EVA publications – from design treatments to the curatorial essay, and prize-giving to colloquia, but most importantly the artworks and artists who have contributed to the history and legacy of the exhibition.
The title of the group is taken from an artwork by Siobhán Cuffe exhibited in the first manifestation of EVA International: the 77 Exhibition. Over the past 40 years, EVA International has grown from Limerick’s artist-led, grassroots exhibition to Ireland’s Biennial of Contemporary Art. The publications that accompany each edition are a rich repository chartering the trajectory of artistic practice and critical thinking in the international art world.
The group will meet at Ormston House on Saturday afternoons from 1-2pm. Participants are welcome to bring along their lunch and we will serve tea and coffee. On occasion, invited guests – EVA artists, curators, writers, technicians, administrators, managers, and board members – will join the conversation.Back
