EV+A 89
EV+A 1989 presented new works of past prize winners from 1984 to 1988. Sixteen out of a possible seventeen past Prize Winners participated. It was noted that “Five of the artists are women; a sixth whose presence would have brought the total to the full seventeen remained elusively uncontactable” [Note from Paul M O’Reilly introductory essay in the 1989 catalogue]. This followed a previous review of work by previous winners which had taken place in 1983.
The exhibition took place at Limerick City Gallery of Art, and travelled to Dublin Royal Hospital Kilmainham, Crawford Municipal Gallery, Cork, Sligo Art Gallery, and Butler Gallery, Kilkenny in 1990. A total of 59 works were exhibited by 16 artists.
In 1989 Young EV+A brought young people into contact with the artists featured in the exhibition, who discussed their work, demonstrated their work processes and techniques, and created new works in the gallery.
