Zeyno Pekünlü

Zeyno Pekünlü presented Without a Camera (2021), a video which reconstructs Vertov’s Man with a Movie Camera (1929). With similar footage shot by ordinary people, machines, and things, Pekünlü replaces camera and cameraman with new recording technologies found on Youtube’s endless pool of “real life” content.

Zeyno Pekünlü’s participation formed part of Little did they know, the Guest Programme of the 39th EVA International, curated by Merve Elveren. Commissioned for the 39th EVA International and supported by SAHA (Istanbul).

Zeyno Pekünlü obtained her M.A. from University of Barcelona, and her Ph.D. from Mimar Sinan University. She is based in Istanbul and currently running the Work and Research Program of the Istanbul Biennial (ÇAP) for young artists and researchers. Pekünlü is part of the editorial board of e-journal Red Thread and member of IRI (Institute of Radical Imagination). Spanning a range of issues, from the construction of maleness and femaleness as gender roles to questioning knowledge and its distribution, Pekünlü’s works aims to decipher “power” that encompasses the intimate and the social simultaneously.
