Suzannah Vaughan, Exit, 2006, sand-cast crystal, cast concrete, 2 pieces

Architecture is a continuing event. Its real record is written into the slowly changing landscape in which our daily life takes place.

— Shane O’Toole, ‘Where we are now’, Irish Architectural Review, vol.1 (RIAI / Gandon, 1999).

It is the details which we do not always notice which influence my work. A building’s exterior does not always define the internal space, but there is always a connection between them.

I have explored glass as an instrument for retaining the balance between the internal and external. The unique qualities of each piece of glass controls the means by how it is seen, often with the potential to control the way in which everything else is seen through it.

Exit consists of two individual pieces that share as many similarities as differences. They are both sand-cast crystal, ground and acid-polished, and cast concrete, which has been acid-etched.
