Sai Hua Kuan, Bottles and Fans, 2010, video installation, 58 seconds loop

Sai Hua Kuan

b. 1976, Singapore

Space Drawing No.7 was created at a warehouse in city-centre Limerick. Emptiness is invading it, like many other waste urban spaces in the city. Space Drawing is a series of sculptural video works and live performances which explores the idea of the simplest but the most fundamental function of a line – to divide, subtract and define a space. This site-specific work has been executed in various venues, including the Esplanade, Singapore; Woburn Square, London; Tower Kronprinz, Kalinlingrad, Russia; Atelierfrankfurt, Frankfurt; and the Art Museum of Sichuan University, Chengdu, China.

Bottles and Fans is a sound installation consisting of a number of used glass bottles and travelling fans. The placing of running fans on top of each bottle creates tunes. The visual and sound experience generated through the playful usage of ordinary objects attempts to stimulate a different way of thinking of green space and time.
