The Map, 2021
A collaborative textile sculpture reimagined the life, legacy, and mythology of Mary Magdalene and her impact on women’s lives. Structures and languages of cartography were used to challenge the historical context of mapping and give voice to the invisible work of women.
Rachel Fallon is a visual artist who is based in Wicklow (IE). Fallon has presented work at public arts institutions and galleries including Spazju Kreattiv, Valletta (MT), the Clifden Arts Festival, Galway (IE) and the Irish Museum of Modern Art, Dublin (IE)
Alice Maher is a visual artist who is based in Kilmoyler (IE). Maher has presented work at public arts institutions and galleries including The Golden Thread Gallery, Belfast (NI), The National Gallery of Ireland, Dublin (IE) and the Museum of Modern Art, Warsaw (PL).
Their collaborative work has been exhibited at Hugh Lane Gallery, Dublin (IE) and Rua Red, Dublin (IE).
The Map was commissioned by Rua Red South Dublin Arts Centre as part of The Magdalene Series curated by Maolíosa Boyle, founded by The Arts Council, Creative Ireland, South Dublin County Arts Office, and Rua Red.
