Limerick, Ireland
Martin Shannon, Tainted, 2005, vinyl text on MDF, 1.2 x 7.3 m

Martin Shannon

b. 1972, Ireland

This work is concerned with the image of Limerick city as perceived by the nation at large. This is as a result of media coverage of the city over the past number of years. The text used in this piece is concerned with the city as a tourist venue, showcasing its cultural attraction and amenities, which are more often than not tainted by the other image of our city. This piece plays with the notion of optical illusion. When viewed up close it will seem like a normal piece of text promoting the city, but when seen from afar the audience will be able to make out the words STAB CITY.
