Malachi Farrell

b. 1970, Ireland

What can I say? I wanted to make a point on how things haven’t changed (wars all around the world). But in Ireland it stopped. I think that is a sign of hope. The work represents that aspect, and the confusion that peace is a fragile element in our world and that wars are at our doors. And as there are more gaps between rich and poor it becomes more difficult to make a balance. A phrase I heard in limerick is that Amsterdam is the country for stoners and Ireland the country for drinkers. Everybody is looking to be a part of paradise.
