Ireland

I am interested in projects that evolve casually, by default, without necessarily having an initial conceptual framework. The paintings presented here are culled from a project that evolved from a similar logic: collecting images from the net using a personal limitation as a system. The default setting is my habitual misspelling. I allow the search engine’s prompt to guide me. The translation that occurs between the selection system and the recontextualising of the eclectic imagery feeds into fundamental concerns underpinning my work, with refusal of narrative, of the linear and of the limitations imposed by a style. I aim to highlight how meaning and interpretation are both malleable and elusive. While the meaning of the images is already altered by their estrangement from their original context and by their method of reproduction, a re-editing occurs with each exhibition.
