Alongside rapid economic development, the city of Beijing is sprawling in all directions. Many farmers have rushed into the cities to make a new living, while other farms continue to rely upon their crop lands. But farming income is far from meeting their needs, and they have been forced to grub on urban refuse sites to generate supplementary income. The continuously sprawling cities dump enormous amounts of garbage into the suburban areas. Local residents subsist by grubbing on these urban refuses. While our mainstream media drums for urban development and prosperity, are we really aware that the urbanisation process is destroying our environment and the way we live?
