Janet Mullarney

Domestic Gods I / II, 1997-98

Two figurative sculptural works that were previously exhibited in EVA’s 1998 edition. The works emphasised the fragility and oddities of the human condition, using a mixture of traditional techniques, found objects and new materials. The artist’s experience of living between Ireland and Italy – two contexts that greatly influenced her work through their traditions of religious iconography and dramatical tragedy.

Janet Mullarney was a sculptor who lived in Dublin (IE) and Florence (IT). Recent presentations of the artist’s works have taken place at The Irish Museum of Modern Art, Dublin (IE), Villa Romana, Florence (IT) and Royal Hibernian Academy, Dublin (IE).
