Hana Miletić
Hana Miletić presented Felt workshops (2018–2020), an installation of eleven textile works that revisit the tradition of handwork from Miletić’s childhood in the former Yugoslavia, and all the exchanges and relations that have arisen from it. The presented textile works were made at public workshops organised for women of all ages and languages, with or without papers in Brussels, Leuven, and Vienna over the past two years.
Hana Miletić’s participation formed part of Little did they know, the Guest Programme of the 39th EVA International, curated by Merve Elveren.
Biography
Living and working in Brussels, Miletić models woven textiles after her photographs that document repairs in public space. She uses the weaving process, which requires considerable time and dedication, as a way to counteract certain economic and social conditions at work, such as acceleration, standardisation, and transparency. Five years ago, Miletić became active in a community weaving workshop in Brussels, reconnecting with a craft from her childhood in Yugoslavia.
Miletić was a resident at Thread, Senegal (2019) and at the Jan van Eyck Academie in Maastricht (2014-2015). Miletić presented her first large institutional solo exhibition in WIELS Contemporary Art Centre, Brussels (2018). She also took part in the 13th Sharjah Biennial Tamawuj. Miletić had solo exhibitions at LambdaLambdaLambda, Prishtina (2019); La Maison de Rendez-vous, Brussels (2019); and The Approach, London (2019). Miletić took part in group exhibitions at Kunsthalle Wien (2020), Metro Pictures, New York (2019); S.M.A.K Municipal Museum of Contemporary Art, Ghent (2018); TextielMuseum, Tilburg (2018). Miletić has facilitated collaborative projects at the community arts centre Globe Aroma, Brussels and De Appel, Amsterdam.
