Ireland

On September 20th last year I travelled on a bus from Dublin to Limerick for a day. I had recently been digesting the works of Guy Debord and George Perec, whose essays and correspondences set down templates for walking in (and reporting) the city.

The piece relates directly to this experience of Limerick city and, in a wider sense, to the urban condition in general. I spent the day compiling source material with a pen and notebook, drawing a subjective map of the city and its psycho-geographical impact, as if by empirical evidence. Over the course of the following months I edited and condensed the writings into a block of text which was then painted directly onto the gallery wall.
