David Dunne
I am examining the concepts of incarceration, isolation and loss of identity. Mankind as prisoner, victim, hostage, stripped of his identity and dignity, still has the capacity and singular freedom to dream and conceive. My work is concerned with the human condition.
This compulsion to deal with the concentration camps has come from time spent in Sachsenhausen, Treblinka, Majdanek, Auschwitz and Birkenau. This compound structure, titled Sleeper, is based on a particular element of that experience.
