In the Wee Hours, 2023
A sculptural installation the developed from the artist’s research interests in dancefloors in rural Ireland, with a particular focus on the ‘Showband’ era from the mid-1950s to mid-1980s. As spaces of kinship, resistance, and for imagining new forms of social existence, the dancefloor served as a kind of portal for escape and rejuvenation against the social and historical backdrop of Ireland at this time. The installation employed atmospheric archetypes of these environments – reenchanting them with a new sculptural language that included fabrics, ceramics, and video.
