2016 Young EVA

Join us in celebrating the Young EVA ‘Art & Philosophy’ programme as part of EVA International, Ireland’s Biennial of Contemporary Art on Culture Night, Friday 16 September from 6 – 8pm in the Limerick City Gallery of Art.

Limerick, along with the rest of Ireland will celebrate Culture Night this Friday, 16 September. Once a year, arts and cultural organisations open their doors until late with hundreds of free events, tours, talks and performances for Culture Night.

Our Young EVA ‘Art & Philosophy’ programme will be presented in a documentary film screening from 6 to 8pm in Limerick City Gallery of Art. The documentary presents outcomes from the Young EVA programme during the 2014 edition of EVA International – Ireland’s Biennial.

As part of the Young EVA Programme, Curator and Gallery Educator Katy Fitzpatrick and Philosopher Aislinn O’Donnell collaborated on an art and philosophy project with the children and teachers of Scoil Mháthair Dé, Limerick over a series of eight workshops both in the classroom and on site at EVA venues. Discussion was focused on the children and their ideas about contemporary art, experiences of making and responding to art, and education.

The children worked with artist Garrett Phelan resulting in an exciting presentation titled, “That’s not Art!!” “That’s not Art!!” focusing on a public discussion on contemporary art and philosophical ideas. To add to the excitement Blindboy Boatclub of the Rubberbandits created a live spoken word performance based on their material. The children and their parents joined Artists, Curators and Educators for a final breakout session reflecting on the ideas they has generated within the project.

Young EVA is a programme of free workshops, tours and activities specially designed for children and young people. Through these activities EVA International invites younger audiences to visit the exhibition venues, encounter contemporary art, ask questions and enjoy the process of making with experienced artists.
