As a collaboration among artists, curators, sponsors, workers and committee members, e v+ a presents yearly to its audiences in Limerick the evidence that the best of contemporary art offers for the assessment, understanding and celebration of the contemporary culture that surrounds us.
An annual open submission exhibition, open to all artists and to the use of any and all materials, media, styles, genres, practices, themes and concepts. The curator of the year, one of international standing, selects the artwork from among the submissions, designs the exhibition and places it within formal and alternative sites in centre-city Limerick, determines the e v+ a awards and contributes the catalogue essay.
A special section occurring every other year in which the Curator of the year personally invites the participation of artists of international standing and includes their work in counterpart to OPEN e v+ a.
An event that alternates every other year with INVITED e v+ a. It consists of a weekend programme of informal discussion and argument among returning past e v+ a curators, invited guest curators and critics, artists and audiences devoted to making sense and meaning out of how contemporary art and culture interact.
An annual programme of workshops, tours, talks that bring together contemporary artists and their audiences to deal with the issues and practices at the heart of contemporary art.
An annual 190 page publication in a book-like octavo format that documents the artists, their works in full colour reproduction, and includes essays by the curator and others, acknowledgements of sponsors and a guide map of the various venues.
The Arts Council of Ireland, the major, most prominent sponsor, is joined by many others, public, corporate and private without whose support in cash or in-kind e v+ a could no longer serve artists and their audiences.
Consists of artists and others drawn from a variety of professional backgrounds whose volunteer commitment together with a team of workers annually brings the e v+ a exhibition out of theory into practice.
